DBTS CSV Manager Extension is DB Technosystems' third application for WB6 after the Webshop Plus and the DBTS Form Processor.

The extension allows you to read data from any grid formatted file and will display them in your pages. It can read not only CSV's but also any other grid formatted file, even with the extension .php. So it can read and display files created by the WB6 built in form processor, by the WB6 Members Login System, by the WB6 guestbook, by the DBTS Form Processor, by Excel and by any other software that creates such (grid formatted) type of files.

It consists in the following extensions:
CSV List Object extension: allows you to display the file content in your pages.
CSV View Object extension: allows you to view the detailed page of a record
CSV Edit Object extension: allows you to edit a record
CSV Delete Object extension: Allows you to delete a record after requiring confirmation.
CSV Search Object extension: allows you to search for specific content among the file records.

At the moment all objects exept the Search Object are released and tested.

The extension suite has been planned in order to provide a tool that will allow users to take advantage of the ability of the WB6 built in Form Processor, and even more, of the DBTS Form Processor to create csv files containing the data submitted by forms.

Possible applications:

1. Flat file Administration Interfaces for use by the webmasters.
2. Displaying in your pages a specific record. This way you can create, in example, members profile pages.
3. Allowing your members to self edit their own profile (or part of it)
4. Displaying in your pages Price lists created with Excel
and more.
5. Allow your visitors to search through a file and display the results.
6. Create listing directories
7. Create searchable product catalogs with images

Naval, no offense, I understand what that means and how to use that but somehow feel, new users who has just bought the software will they get that? My point was a more simplified explanation....otherwise it is OK

I just discovered this extension and it looks like it could be very useful with our DVD database (http://www.theracereport.tv/dvd.html )

I want to convert our current DVD inventory from a WB table displayed in an iframe to a database so that customers can view a specific group of DVD's (example: only DVD's of "Afton Speedway" , or: only DVD's from 2008.

I am leaning toward a mySQL database instead of Excel or Access. Will this extension help achieve this goal?

Hi Ron,
This extension is based on a csv file created either in Excel or directly by a form. For your needs you probably need a MySQL system. However, you have, from what I see, additional requirements, like paypal buttons displayed in the table etc.
If
I think you need something like this: http://www.irishhorsemarkets.com/adverts/list.php or http://www.jerryoconnorcars.com/list.php with obvious differences. These applications require rather specific scripts instead of generic ones though.

Each racing season we add about 150 new DVD titles, so eventually the table length (and corresponding page length) that customers will have to scroll through will get out of hand.

With the current system it is very simple to copy & paste the PayPal code from one table cell to the next and then make the necessary changes to the item description. I don't know if the PayPal script will execute correctly from a mySQL table cell, but it seems like it should.

Is there a mySQL script that could be adapted for our application, or would a custom script be needed?

Hi Ron,

Yes, of course, this is my job (writing DB driven scripts for such applications)

In my aplications, you don't need to create anything, the info (like title, price, item code etc) are all fed into the database. The script then creates the catalog automatically. And, the list is displayed in pages, so the page height doesn't get out of control (see links I posted). Even the PayPal button is autocreated by the info fed in the DB. In most cases, jobs like yours, offer also a downloadable version of the product, in which case this script should be combined with an in-your-site cart, that will, after payment, allow for instant download.

I have a problem with the list object. It only shows the label line. And if i switch to "no" the "first line is label" option, i get an error : "No records found in this file!".
Of course, there is more than one line in the file.

You have not typed the "Listings per page" value so the script can't see how many listings it should display. Also, ther eis no Table height plus some other settings are missing.

Complete the settings so it can work.

I'm having a problem getting the DBTS CSV Manager to work. I have created a form with WB6 that seems to working properly and adding records to formdata.csv.

I've brought the created CSV back to my computer and verified that there are records in the file.
The form is at http://www.sagegolf.org/application.php

Now I've tried to get your CSV Manager to list the records on a page at
http://www.sagegolf.org/list.php
I've carefully read your documentation several times and tried to correctly configure the CSV Manager but keep getting the error message
"No records found in this file!"

Did you set a number of Results per Page ?

If left blank, it defaults to 0, so it says "No records found"

You might want to review the language in your documentation where it says:
5. Separator: The separator used in your file. The extension allows for four
different separators: “;”, “,”, chr(02) “ ” and chr(380) “ |”.

The WB6 Login system file and the csv created by the WB6 form processor
both use |, the guestbook uses chr(02) “ ” . The DBTS Form Processor

extension uses the Excel type csv separator “;”.

I took it from this that since I had created the datafile with the WB6 form processor that the separator was chr(380).

I wonder if you could help with your extension please as I can't see the wood for the trees in what I am doing wrong.

I have a file on my server called introd.csv

This data in this file is from a form using your other (excellent) form processing extension.

All the forms says is:

Name
Tel
Email
Company

... and I wish to display those parameters in the CSV file.

I drag and drop the DBS CSV extension onto the page, set the page to php.

CSV filepath is introd.csv, separator is ; - first line labels "yes" other parameters are blank apart from the preselected ones (eg Ascending etc)

I upload but I don't get a nicely formated table, nor do I get the parameters from the form - eg Name, tel etc. I get other things like IP address, stamp, submission date etc. I have tried using the columns to include, and have set, separating with commas, 1,2,3,4 - but still no properly formated table.

Also, I can't edit or delete the records.

Sorry if I have misunderstood something simple - I just can't work this one out.

Just looking at the source of edit.php and the stray tags are still there:

Also in edit.php, the trailing semi colon still exists:

That closing style tag on the left shouldn't exist at all and the closing script tag on the right shouldn't exist.

Not sure what you mean.

There is one other problem in addition to the 3 or 4 little things I noted earlier.

For Page Protection, if you use the single page protect on the "edit" page, both the page protection and your code are reacting on a submission based on

if ($_SERVER['REQUEST_METHOD'] == "POST")

so if you land on the page, type in the password, it just zips through the entire script and goes to the success page and you never see the content.

But there is such a hidden field that controls the script behavior, both in the Edit and the Delete objects.

And, I have tested them thoroughly with WB7 this is why I don't understand it. Even the code you mentioned actually is:

In the new versions (List object) I have also enabled the "Parse as Image", "Parse as Email" and "Parse as Hypwerlink" features that were disabled in the previous version.

Not sure why you have issues downloading, but pls follow these steps:

1. in WB enter the extension Manager. Uninstall all 4 extensions.
2. Click on Available and allow WB to retrieve the lates versions.
3. Click on the Forms category, and they should appear.
4. Install through the extension manager, directly from the site

Then Close Down WB and Start it again. Check to see.

The extension ads stylesheets to the List page itself. I don't see it in your page.

Furthermore, the extension ads code in the "Between Head" tag of the page, so there is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON why the extension would break the </head> tag. I wouldn't be able to do it even if I wanted to!

What you are saying is impossible.

WB creates css global files only from the styles you create within WB itself, not from css styles that are added by extensions. It doesn't even "see" it at all!

Unless you have added other code, on your own, that causes an issue with WB .

etc, is added by the extension, WB doesn't even "see" it in order to remove it and add it in the css file!

If you have not modified it yourself, I suggest that you publish again the page, ALL FILES and see if maybe there was a conflict with the broken extension code that you had installed previously.

The other pages retrieve the css file that the extension creates itself. You can see it in this line:

The list page instead, which is the "core" of the extension, SHOULD have the css code added in the page itself as I posted above.

The broken </head> tag causes the text "head>" to appear in your page.

-Generate external CSS style sheets for page specific styles

Should not be both checked as this is meaningless! I usually use the second.

You can use the same form that you used to create the CSV. Or build one if the CSV was built in Excel. The form can be processed either the built in form processor or the DBTS Form Processor.
This is the reason why there is no "Add" object.

Hello,
using the CSV List I want to display an image in column 4 but I cant seem to get the image to display only the text of the data.

I enter in 'Parse as image columns' the number 4
Then in the CSV file what data do I need? the full URL (ie http://www.webpage.com/images/image.jpg) or just from the root (ie images/image.jpg)

for example the CSV file might contain this line-
Fred,Green,shoes,images/fred.jpg

so then in the 4th column of the list table the image file fred.jpg would be displayed?

what am I doing wrong?

also what image file formats work? will it work with a png file?

You must use the full URL: http://domainname.com/images/image.jpg

The script isn't at all interested in the type of image, it simply ads the necessar <img .... > tags so the browser will display it as image. So it supports whatever image type the browser supports.

Do you have the latest version of the extension ? Where can I see your pages ?

Hello George,
I've been having a play and found out the problem....

I was trying to get the image in the last column - column 4

But....

The first column is numbered 0 not 1
so the 4th column is numbered 3!

so I changed the number in 'Parse as Image columns' to 3 and it worked!

so now its all sorted

Another quick question about DBTS CSV List...

Is it possible to remove the column sort?
I dont want my web site users to be able to sort the columns.

dont know if this will be possible or not
